Matt McClane's House
Say hello, sucka.
Check it out. I designed all this stuff.
My name is Matt McClane, and I'm currently the Presentation Editor at the Chattanooga Times Free Press in Tennessee.
I love publication design, badass typography, 1980's horror films and steak. I made this site for my friend Carl, who's been bugging me to see my portfolio for years. Well, Carl, here's my stuff. Enjoy these action-packed fades and photos of hands.

INVESTIGATIVE / SOLUTIONS JOURNALISM PROJECT
Speak No Evil
Joan McClane was joined by Todd South to create a three-part series examining the terrifying reality of a no-snitch culture. It's a comprehensive look inside one woman's tragic and exhausting quest to find her son's murderer in a place where sharing information means having the business end of an AK-47 rammed down your throat. I handled both print and site design for the project.

LONGFORM NARRATIVE PROJECT
Franklin McCallie
Projects Editor Joan McClane thought Franklin McCallie was an interesting guy. Then she heard his story and her mind exploded into pudding. Born into one of Chattanooga's most prominent families and injected with heavy doses of racism and hatred, everything changed after a chance encounter with a black man whose kindness challenged his perceptions and set him on a path that would become his life's work — bridging the gap between races. I handled the print design and art directed the site, and it was a privilege to be a part of it.

The Cruelest Equation
There is a super rare disease that you've probably never heard of called IPEX. It kills children. Mercilessly. Writer Kate Harrison Belz takes you into the life one one woman who lost one of her three boys to this nightmarish sickness, and now another has contracted the disease. But the only thing that could save him — a full bone marrow transplant — could kill him before the disease does. Does she take the risk of losing another child? I handled the print and site design. Go dig in.

LONGFORM NARRATIVE PROJECT
Unfit
At the hospital, a loving and excited new mother and father held their baby daughter for the first time. Then she was taken away. Like something out of Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report," a court deemed the couple unfit — based on a prediction — and tore their family apart before they became a family. Writer Joy Lukachick Smith examines this gut-punch of a story and follows their quest to take back the only thing that matters in their lives. I handled print design and art directed the site.

Hope you enjoyed yourself, Carl. I'll see you at the bar later.
Get in touch, man.
Did you just finally land that new job? Did a giant robot spider smash through your windshield again? Did you win a puppy at a county fair? Did you wake up this morning and find your good buddy senselessly murdered by a bunch professional ninjas or pirates? I'd totally love to hear about it.
